CREATING SOUNDS LIT BY LOW TONE COLORS AND SHADES.

In this album, I speak two of my favorite languages, my way: electronic 80’s Wave/Synth Pop, and Experimental/Ambient. I followed a sort of theme, in which I marry the love between two people as it’s set against a moody L.A. evening, and parallel scenes playing out across the city and over lost coastal mountainsides.

I see my music, as I hear it. It’s like a series of short films, and notes become colors… sounds become textures… there’s enveloping heat and there’s sharp coldness… in lyrics there’s a taste of intimacy… there’s a touch and there can be an absence… as I write, I imagine scenes following one another.

All of OF(F) COURSE is written in the key of C# minor, with an exception here and there, as it is my favorite pallet of notes. There’s a certain raininess to it… a dark, romantic melancholy that has drawn me in since I first listened to Chopin’s nocturne in C# minor as a kid. I love synths, tape FX, and 80’s drum machines, and they’re all over my recent work. Fairly recently, I’ve fallen in love with the Fender Jaguar (Johnny Marr Edition).

As for the ambient EP titled APOLLO 89, it is a sequence of environments, as my music is not necessarily meant to entertain – it’s meant to immerse. APOLLO 89 is best listened to behind the darkness of closed eyes, in an unlit space, or under the moon and stars.

THE JEM TO MY JERRICA…

It’s a simple way of putting it, but yeah, that 80’s-era cartoon played a key role in my childhood, and continues through today! I even named one of my synths “Minx” in honor of one of my favorite characters!

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the technology and magic of electronic music. My favorite textures are thick, rich pad sounds… I can literally listen to Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack, over and over. As part of my journey, I continue composing my personal work, along with soundtracks for films, video games, and theatre.

In terms of musicianship, I have played all kinds of synthesizers since I was a teenager, and was mostly influenced by Depeche Mode and Alan Wilder’s project, Recoil, early on. I had a choice when I was 19: spend my savings on doing what so many other fellow Miamians were doing to their cars (lower it, get rims… you know, that sort of thing), or buy my first synth. And here we are.

Having realized that the Korg Triton was great, yet not my thing, I sold it and bought a Nord Lead 3 and Moog Little Phatty Tribute Edition. The Nord is still with me, and she is my favorite synth. Since then, I have auditioned a wide array of synths and effects in my studio, and have put together precisely the space, here in California, where I feel at home.

The only thing better is having wine at my favorite beach with my favorite person in the world, Dot, who performs with me at live events. She is my guiding light, and my muse.

… is SINEDRIFTER

“LIFE IS A SERIES OF SINE WAVES,
AND I’M DRIFTING.”

“The sine wave is the basis of all sound… fundamentals… harmony… noise. The rises and falls in life, and the equally potent sides of one’s Self resonate on the wavelength; I find myself at the crest, and I find myself along the descent, each movement being equally essential.

“My musical journey has led me through some of the richest places in life that I’ve found along the Path of Enlightenment, and through each sound… each phrase… each composition, I see more of the Truth that sometimes hides in the overcast heights covering life’s mountainous and sweeping sines. Through the clouds revealing the path’s meaning, I get closer to my destination, under the sun and the moon, and above the dream.”
